The first Exchange Traded Note was launched linked to an index of Master Limited Partnerships. The Alerian MLP Select ETN is listed on the NYSE under the symbol "BSR," tracks the performance of the Alerian MLP Select Index, and provides investors with single security exposure across the energy infrastructure sector through the MLP asset class in a cost-effective and operationally efficient manner.
The Notes will also pass on the corresponding distributions for the underlying companies as a monthly coupon, net of fees. Investors will not receive K-1s as with direct investments in MLPs, but instead will receive a Form 1099 reflecting the distribution pass through as ordinary income.
The Index measures the composite performance of energy oriented Master Limited Partnerships ("MLPs"), and is calculated by the Standard and Poor's using a float-adjusted, market capitalization weighted methodology. The objective of the Index is to provide investors with an unbiased, comprehensive benchmark for the performance of the energy MLP universe. The Index itself is disseminated real-time on a price-return basis and is listed on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. As of June 15, 2007 there were 37 constituents in the Index.
